CAPABILITIES

+ Multiphase

Simerics-MP solves multiphase flow and heat transfer uses Volume of Fluid (VOF) approach with its high resolution interface capturing algorithm. Both implicit and explicit approaches are fast and robust with sharp phase interface and excellent mass/volume conservation for each phase.

Comprehensive physics

Multiphase flow with heat transfer, surface tension, and liquid-solid surface contact angle.

Accurate prediction

Excellent correlation with test data over the full operating range, and always has excellent mass/volume/energy conservation.

Fast simulation speed

Proprietary numerical algorithm with significantly faster run-time, faster convergence, and rapid simulation results.

Robust process

High stability for very complex geometry, micron size gap, and highly moving deforming mesh such as oil injection in a twin screw compressor.

+ Flow

Simerics-MP solves compressible and incompressible, laminar and turbulence, internal and external, and steady and unsteady fluids flows using RANS finite volume based approach. The solver covers all flow speeds from creeping flow to supersonic flow. It also solves non-Newtonian fluid as well as fluid with variable properties such as real gas.

+ Meshing

Simerics-MP has a built in general purpose mesher. It generates body fitted binary tree mesh directly and automatically from CAD surfaces. No CAD cleaning is required. A user always produces a valid mesh, even with the default settings. The mesher also provides easy and intuitive ways to refine the mesh in a user-defined region. The mesh generated has very high quality and very high efficiency.

Automatic mesh generation and automatic one-step generation of separated solid or fluid domains for problems within conjugate heat transfer applications.

Agile mesh generation

Mesh for a 50 million cell vehicle under hood model with thousands of components can be created in 1-2 hours.

Robust process

Time taken for “dirty” CAD geometry import to mesh generation is negligible. No CAD cleanup required.

High fidelity mesh with perfect orthogonality and aspect ratio for best accuracy and highly efficient mesh for a quick transition from coarse to fine mesh.

Simerics-MP takes into account liquid vapor, non-condensable gas, and liquid compressibility together to form a very comprehensive cavitation and aeration model. The transition of non-condensable gas between dissolved and free states is also included in the model.

Excellent correlation with test data for cavitation inception, bubble formation, location of erosion, and cavitation induced performance reduction such as NPSHr.

Simerics-MP solves conductive, convective, and conjugated heat transfer in solids and fluids with temperature and pressure dependent material properties. Combined with flow solve, MP-Heat covers both forced convection and free convection. A separate surface to surface radiation module handles radiative heat transfer very efficiently, even for models with a large number of surfaces.
